Flow Over Water Borders is a 5 channel sound installation about how the city changes our nature.

How does the water change when people act upon it?
How do we personally change when we interact with other people?
We all have borders. Learning how to navigate them is important. Wether we are overcoming personal hurdles or opening up to others, the process creates changes in both ourselves and others.
Flow Over Water Borders explores the parallel between urban life for young people and the changes occurring in water as it passes through the city. The sound installation explores the meaning of boundaries, the fluid nature of the self and the eternal navigation of the individual as part of society.
Audio recordings were created with class 7c during a co-creation workshop from the Wasserklang Orchester project, investigating the Panke River in Berlin Wedding as part of the project “DIY Hack the Panke” (Art Laboratory Berlin). Recordings were taken using special instruments developed by the artist, Kat Austen, which generate sounds from the measurement of chemical properties of water. Piano was composed with and played by, Klavier AG pupil Ebot Oyong. Flute is played by Jasmine Wegenera and Celina Zayan, Class 7c.

Wie verändert sich das Wasser, wenn es mit Menschen in Kontakt kommt? Wie verändern wir uns selbst im Umgang mit anderen Menschen?
Wir alle sind umgeben von Grenzen. Wichtig ist zu lernen, wie man mit ihnen umgeht. Ob wir Probleme überwinden oder uns anderen öffnen, der Prozess schafft Veränderungen sowohl in uns selbst als auch in unserem Gegenüber.
“Flow over water borders“ (zu deutsch “Fluss über wässrige Grenzen”) untersucht die Parallelen zwischen dem städtischen Leben junger Menschen und den Veränderungen des Wassers auf seinem Weg durch die Stadt. Die Klanginstallation erforscht die Bedeutung von Grenzen, die Fluidität des Selbst und die ewige Navigation des Individuums als Teil der Gesellschaft.
Die Audioaufnahmen wurden mit der Klasse 7c während eines Co-Creation-Workshops erstellt, der die Panke in Berlin Wedding im Rahmen des Projekts „DIY Hack the Panke“ (Art Laboratory Berlin) untersuchte. Die Aufnahmen wurden mit Spezialinstrumenten gemacht, die die Künstlerin Kat Austen entwickelt hat. Sie basieren auf Geräuschen aus der Messung der chemischen Eigenschaften von Wasser und Aufnahmen mit Unterwassermikrofonen.
Begleitet werden die Aufnahmen am Klavier von Ebot Oyong und an der Querflöte von Jasmine Wegenera and Celina Zayan.
